October Report to Region

CIRNA Regional Delegate Report October 2009

In my August written report, and then verbally, I advised the RSC that I would miss our September assembly, as I was attending the World Convention and spending three weeks traveling Europe. Nonetheless, I again apologize for not having been present last month.
The World Convention was wonderful, accentuated by a worldwide hook up via satellite that was spectacular and very heart warming. For our fellowship to reach out and have an audio feed uniting many parts of the world together with the 53 countries represented in Barcelona (incidentally the most countries ever represented at a World Convention), was another example of NA fulfilling our mission statement! Also, our maturity as a fellowship and our global reach were showcased.
As to the particulars of the convention as far as, turn out, if we met our financial projections etc. I will keep us informed as information is made available. Merchandise for one I know was gone and quickly. All events that I attended and asked others about were well attended, liked and much appreciated. Speaker tapes for the convention are available on our website, NA.org.

Looking forward, we will be having our next zonal event in San Diego in January and I will provide details as we get closer to the event. By way of emails sent to the zonal group, I found out that in September the question of funding our RDA, and presumably I, to go to Fresno came up again at our September RSC and it was disheartening to find out essentially 3rd hand something that our RDA should be discussing with the RD. Furthermore, it is my recollection that we as a body had clearly decided in August that the RD and RDA would not be funded as per my recommendation that we should not be. I reiterate after due diligence on my part that there is no justification in supporting an experiment having us move our Zonal Forum to an event that is not part of World Services! If the consensus were to be that there is no benefit to having our Zonal meeting on off conference years, then that is another matter.
I had reported to this body in my June 2009 report that there was discussions among RD’s as to the effectiveness of WSZF meeting on off conference cycle years, and stated that I did not have the experience or exposure to formulate an opinion, at that time. As of this report, I feel I do, and it is, that we definitely should continue to meet every year and continue as the entity that we are, Western States Zonal Forum.

In November we will receive the Conference Agenda Report and then in late January we will have the WSZF meeting in San Diego, it would be nice to have some input from our region in regards to motions, questions and suggestions. Between December and March we will need to get the report out our members, have a meeting inviting all GSR’s and members so that we can go over the material, take the information to all groups and then have the groups vote on the standing motions. Then the votes need to be brought back so that we can in turn adequately represent our members at the Conference in April. Time is short especially with our zone having moved the WSZF to January.

Help us to help the addict that still suffers! Visit NA.org (http://questionnaire.disc.na.org.use) to fill out the Membership Survey which will be online through December 2009. The survey is cool to fill out, it is very useful toward our efforts at carrying the message by helping persuade officials, professionals and others outside of NA that we are a viable and worthy resource for addicts needing referrals and help. Please fill one out, and please only one, help spread the word so others will do their part as well. It is critical and appreciated.

If you have five or more years clean, and service experience or skills that could contribute to world services, we would like to invite you to become a member of the World Pool. It is easy to do, simply complete the World Pool Information Form which can be found online.
Being a member of the World Pool means that you may be considered for world service trusted servant work. For example, when the World Board needs members to participate in projects or work groups, or when the HRP considers nominees for World Service Conference elections, the World Pool database is searched for people who have expressed the willingness to serve and meet the identified requirements.
We believe that completing a World Pool Information Form is in itself an act of selfless service. And please remember, even if you have previously submitted one of the older resumes or forms, or you already are in the World Pool, it is important to complete a WPIF every three years so that we have the most accurate and up-to-date information

Your trusted servant,
“El”Sinore Oscar
